Australian Math Competition is the only thing I can remember today. GAHH. I thought it was easy except for the MCQ about Rachel born in 2007 question. I guessed that one, didn't bother to try since I didn't know a 'method' for it. Turns out I might I gotten most questions in the OEQ wrong. xP
I THOUGHT I got the last question right. I got 6 but most people got 5. The question was something like "Find the largest possible smallest digit of N and 7N" (N can be anything...)
I listed out the 7 multiplication table like
(1) 7
(2) 14
(3) 21
(4) 28
(5) 35
(6) 42
(7) 49
(8) 56
(9) 63
After that I took the answer to be 7 (because of the NINE in 49)
So i tried
987
x7
6979
I made up N so that the digits for both N & 7N would be 7 or above. But after doing the multiplication 6 was left behind as the 1st digit. So I tried 6 with
998
x7
6986
Actually I just realised this is unecessary since 6 has been shown to be possible using the previous product. And that it's probably the answer because 7 cannot be. I doubt, at least. I don't really 100% understand my logic now but when I discovered it I was very sure it was right. Maybe I forgot one of the criteria I thought of. Anyway, I still wonder if the answer is 5 since so many people who are PRO in math got 5. BOO. AHH. Do comment on this post if you did this question (:
